| Gents, Sorry it took a week to get this email out. I'd list the reasons but hey - you don't really care. First of all, three cheers to the 24 or 25 hearty ruggers (I never did get a complete head count) who braved a cold, drizzling day (49 degrees F; about 9 degrees C) in Lincoln to play almost 40 minutes of rugby (See Attached Photo). All of the traditional Nebraska teams were represented with UN-L Alums, Golden GOATS, Grand Island Storm, and Lincoln Rugby. Our most seasoned player was Murray Robinson at age 60, so if you're younger than that, the phrase "I'm too old to play" has little meaning. Remember, there's no shame in wearing a red vest on to the pitch, only in counting yourself out. With a cold blustery day at hand, more than once before the game I heard "Can we just do a boat race at the bar?" but once we were on the pitch and going after it, it turned out to be one of the more enjoyable old boys games I've been involved with. The mantra "If you came here to impress someone, you're too late!" was in full force and we had a physical, friendly, and evenly matched game. The two teams traded several trys apiece in the first period. The dark team dominated the second period and the motley team came out on fire in the third (shortened) period. Since no one was keeping score (that confessed to it anyway) I do believe it truly did end up a 9-9 tie. A hand goes out to Dennis "Gramps" Mustoe, a former kicker for UN-L, Lincoln, and the GOATS who valiantly attempted to see if he still had it for conversions. Keep practicing this summer, Dennis, and you'll be on target for the Fall game. We're rootin' for ya'.
